Game of Thrones is a show with many a great characters, and a cast to match the greatness. While the show has a lot of things going on, it has certainly often been referred to as the show with dragons, sex and murder. Don’t get us wrong, we do find the portrayal of all three of those things on the show, quite interesting. After all, those of us who are deep into the fandom have our share of crushes. Ranging from Emilia Clarke‘s Daenerys Targaryen, to Kit Harington‘s Jon Snow, to Sophie Turner‘s Sansa Stark, the characters have charmed us right up. Some of us even seem to blush at the sleaziness of Petyr Baelish, also known as Littlefinger. Actor Aidan Gillen, who portrays Littlefinger, discussed his character’s status as a sex symbol, in a recent interview.
Talking to Collider from the sets of his upcoming movie,King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, Aidan Gillen was asked if he knew that Littlefinger was perceived as a sex symbol by many. He responded:”
“Well, I’m kind of surprised by that now because I wasn’t really aware of it. I don’t know, its interesting given that some of the strands in the story are unsavory or could be seen that way and Littlefinger’s relationship with Sansa Stark is quite unorthodox, without me trying to put as much warmth into it as I can and just play it for real. I’m not aware of being a sex symbol, though.”
In his upcoming film, Aiden plays the role of Goose Fat Bill, an archer who works with King Arthur, which, he says, is a break from Littlefinger. He said :
“I have played a fair few villainous roles or bad guy roles, this is not one. We are on the wrong side of the law, as it stands, but on the side of good in that we’re going up against a nasty king, thwarting him.”
He also acknowledged that Game of Thrones’ success has paved the way for more content focused on portraying the medieval times, like King Arthur itself. Aiden explained :
“I don’t doubt that the popularity of Game of Thrones, for example, makes this kind of film more producible and bankable. It still has to be good though, to make it enjoyable and for people to come. I think everyone, including myself, even though we knew Game of Thrones was good, surprised at how exactly how huge it became, which is massive and around the world. Although, that shouldn’t be a surprise in that it’s quite universal and could be understood anywhere.”
We quite agree! Aidan Gillen will return in Game of Thrones Season 7, when it airs, starting July 16th. Until then, you can check him out in King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, which will release on May 12. Are you planning on watching this film? Tell us in the comments, below!
