Episode 9 of House of the Dragon lived up to all the anticipation. In episode 8, Princess Helaena Targaryen mumbles.  “Beware the beast beneath the boards“, and repeats it in the next episode to her mother. In this episode, we discover its true meaning, which essentially validates Helaena’s prophetic skills. Actor Ewan Mitchell, who plays Aemond, essentially confirmed the prophecy too.

What happened in House of the Dragon episode 9?

As the prince is crowned, we catch her slinking away. She crept to the dragon pit under King’s Landing. Aegon the Second’s coronation was regally interrupted by Rhaenys and Meleys. The Greens were waiting anxiously to hear if she would say “dracarys,” but she never did. Helaena’s prophecy comes true when she leaps from “beneath the boards” onto her “beast.”

Princess Helaena Targaryen has long been theorized to be a dragon dreamer, and there are many occasions that hinted at that. One of them was her warning, “Beware the beast beneath the boards“. Those who are familiar with Fire & Blood speculated if it was really Rhaenys breaking out of the floorboards with her dragon, or the upcoming danger of Blood and Cheese in Season 2.

However, it seems like Mitchell has finally put all speculations to rest, as he made it clear in a recent video released by HBO while looking at the scene:

“It’s just terrible that it got ruined by Rhaenys. We should’ve listened to Helaena, she already predicted it, “Beware the beast beneath the boards”.
