George R.R. Martin adopts a puppy and names him Dunk

Published

The Direwolves of the North were some of the most favorited creatures on the show. The adventures of Starks and their Direwolves were legendary, such as Jon Snow and his Direwolf, Ghost. While we are not going to get Snow and Ghost anytime soon on the screen, it seems George R. R. Martin himself has picked one for himself. A pup named Dunk.

George R. R. Martin’s new pup named Dunk

George R. R. Martin’s love for animals is quite evident from the fact he used to write stories about his pet turtles. He recently adopted a puppy and named him Dunk, after one of the lead characters from his Dunk and Egg novellas, on its way to becoming a TV series. He posted a picture of Dunk on his Instagram, and wrote:

“We got a PUppY! Meet the newest edition to our family, Dunk. This precious pup survived a particularly traumatic start to life: he was found with his siblings in a box on the side of the road in Chimayo, all of them deathly sick with Parvo. Thanks to our vet team and our dynamic fostering duo, Mike & Julie Martinez, the entire litter survived. Special thanks to @espanolahumane for helping us find Dunk and bring him home.”

George R. R. Martin admires Dunk and Egg casting

Martin recently took to his blog to admire the casting of Peter Claffey as Dunk and Dexter Sol Ansell as Egg, “We have our hedge knight. And he has his squire. Peter Claffey will play Dunk. He’s a former professional rugby player turned actor. And he’s tall. Ok, maybe not quite as tall as Ser Duncan the Tall, but still plenty tall, and with the magic of television… His readings were terrific. I think you’re going to love him.

As Egg, we’ve cast Dexter Sol Ansell. Most recently seen in the HUNGER GAMES prequel, but he’s got an amazing amount of experience for his age. I am told he cannot wait to shave his head. (Love that sort of commitment). His auditions were wonderful as well. Peter and Dexter. They should make one hell of a pair.”
