One of the most popular shows of the twenty-first century was Game of Thrones. Maybe that’s why a great majority of fans were saddened when the last season turned out to be a complete failure. In spite of this, the HBO fantasy still holds the record for most Primetime Emmy victories. The show’s creators, David Benioff and D. B. Weiss recently discussed the role of the network in making or breaking the show.

Dan Weiss says the network’s positive feedback is essential to a show’s success while discussing Game of Thrones

Just like most of the cast and crew, the showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss have moved on to newer ventures. The duo is currently working on the 3 Body Problem, a Netflix Sci-fi currently ruling the charts. Weiss told Josh Horowitz in a recent interview:

3 BODY PROBLEM creators talk adaptation, GAME OF THRONES ending, STAR WARS I Happy Sad Confused

“I guess I hadn’t really taken into account the network effects. The network’s effects, it can help the show when they’re working in your favor as a positive feedback loop… It’s hypocritical to love it when it’s blowing in your direction and to decide it’s the end of the world when it’s going the other way. But yeah, I think maybe that was the part of it that we hadn’t really accounted for, in knowing that some people were going to like it and some people weren’t.”

David Benioff hoped Game of Thrones’ final season received a better response

It’s no secret that most fans of the show detested the last season of Game of Thrones. In the history of the show, it had the lowest rating. Benioff stated:

“I think we knew it would be controversial, I think we hoped that it would be a little more 50/50. I think you hope for a better proportion of … We definitely didn’t want it to be quite so much hate. We were prepared for some of it.”
