George R. R. Martin says he’s done with readings of new chapters from The Winds of Winter

Game of Thrones is about to enter Season 7, with premiere set in the summer. In the meantime, George R. R. Martin, the author of A Song of Ice and Fire, the series of books on which the show is based, is yet to churn out the 6th book, The Winds of Winter. He recently announced a new short story titled The Sons of the Dragon, to be published in an anthology collection, called The Book of Swords, set for an October release. Martin had held a reading of this story before, at the 2014 London Con, which is actually what he seems to do quite often, having read out chapters from The Winds of Winter. However, now, he has said that he’s done reading out material from Winds.

Martin had posted on his Not A Blog, which he uses to update his fans, discussing the new short story. A fan asked him in the comments as to whether they should hold out for him to read another chapter from Winds at a con, considering how he had said that the book will probably be out this year. To this, George replied :

“I may give readings at upcoming cons, but they will probably be of chapters I’ve read before at other cons. There comes a point when you are simply putting too much of the book out there. It was not such a problem before the internet, but now everything I read gets transcribed and posted and leaked all over the world, so…”

The transcripts of the chapters George has already read out are available on the internet, but looks like fans will have to make do with only them till he finishes, and decides to release the book.

Another fan asked him how he decided which chapters to read out, and which ones to hold back, and whether Martin feared revealing too much.

“Yes. I worry about that all the time.

And I think I may be at the limit with WINDS.

And then, a year later, along came “Alayne.”

Yes, I know, I’d said there would be no more sample chapters, but (1) it had been more than a year since Mercy, (2) lots of you were asking, and (3) Anne Groell and my friends at Bantam twisted my arm.”

However, we wouldn’t be surprised if Martin releases at least one chapter, especially because the book might get delayed further, which is something George always hints at.

Guess we’ll have to wait and watch. When do you think The Winds of Winter will release? Tell us in the comments, below!
