Game of Thrones prequel update: Cushendon Caves used as a filming location, direwolves, and other news

Published

Video takes you through 12,000 years of Game of Thrones history in 11 minutes!

Game Of Thrones prequel series returns to our TV screens in 2020 or in close vicinity. The series will feature the stories of Starks of the legend, the origin of the White Walkers, and much more. Since you might not have heard of it lately, today we bring you some exclusive filming updates.

Starting with a filming location we’re already familiar with – the Cushendon Caves – sources tell us that the filming for the pilot has already started over here. And, it is the same location we saw Melisandre travelling with Ser Davos Seaworth back in Season Two. These caves are located in Northern Ireland.

Our sources also tell us that some wolves were bred for the series which makes us believe that it will feature more Direwolves.

The official description of the series reads:

Taking place thousands of years before the events of ‘Game of Thrones,’ the series chronicles the world’s descent from the Golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: from the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East to the Starks of legend … it’s not the story we think we know.

We have been told that the prequel will also answer the question to why Direwolves are important to the North. This way, the prequel series based on the Age of Heroes will give us the origin of major houses like House Stark, House Lannister, and much more.

The series will also tell us about the origin story of how some of the important castles in Westeros were raised. This makes us believe that we will come to know about the foundation of some of the oldest Houses and their seat of power – especially Winterfell as it is linked to the first men and the founder of the house Bran the Builder.

And, as Richard Plepler suggests, the series is:

“…something special. We weren’t just trying to re-engineer the genes of what ‘Game of Thrones’ was, but we had a fresh, exciting perspective that didn’t let the franchise go away.”

This gives us the hope that Game of Thrones won’t die even after David Benioff and Dan Weiss are off-board this time. Though it can be confirmed that direwolves will be a part of the series, yet if there were dragons too, it would really be like icing on the cake!

The production is moving swiftly despite hitting some minor obstacles along the way, as indicated by the regular leaks occurring all over the internet. This time, the cast and the crew were spotted filming at Derbyshire, England on Friday. McTavish was seen donning a full battle armour riding a horse. There have been no confirmations about his role yet, and the pictures were not clear enough to actually guess what House does he belong to.

Olivia Cooke was seen wearing a period costume similar to one once worn by Natalie Dormer as Margaery Tyrell on Game of Thrones. She’s inside a horse-drawn carriage. Cooke plays Queen of Westeros Alicent Hightower in House of The Dragon.

Milly Alcock, who will play a younger version of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in the Game of Thrones prequel, was also spotted on set. She appeared to be bidding farewell to a motion capture device that looked like the head of a dragon.

New Set Photos from House of The Dragon provide a glimpse of Steve Toussaint as Corlys Velaryon

House of The Dragon resumes production after COVID shutdown

Game of Thrones prequel House of The Dragon is fast on track for its release in 2022. Last week, the crew was spotted filming at various sites in Cornwall. The show’s stars Matt Smith and Emma D’Arcy were seen filming on Holywell Beach in costume. Some more photos were leaked, later on, providing a glimpse at another important character, Lord Corlys Velaryon.

The Daily Mail recently published photos of the cast and crew preparing for a busy day of shooting in Cornwall. The leaked photos provide the very first look at Steve Toussaint as Corlys Velaryon. Also, the filming that day took place at St. Michael’s Mount, which is very likely the set for Driftmark, the home base for House Velaryon.

In other photos, Matt Smith was seen wrapped up in a padded black jacket that covered his black ensemble. He was covered up with his coat to protect it from the rain as he walked to and from the set. His mid-length wig was pulled into a half-back hairdo.

Emma D’Arcy wore a long crimson gown to portray Princess Rhaenyra. She was also covered up with a large overcoat to keep herself warm from the bracing wind. With all the characters clad in black/dark colours, with a sizable group gathered, it may have been for a funeral. Possibly for the sarcophagus seen that day on set.

Game of Thrones’ Lena Headey to star and produce AMC's 'Beacon 23’

Fantasy is a blissful escape from bleak reality. The COVID-19 pandemic is on the rise again, and the world economy is in ruins. People rely on the fantastical world to take a break from everything that’s going on. Game of Thrones was one such happy escape that kept fans entertained for nearly a decade. No wonder it was voted as the greatest TV show of the 21st century. Actress Lena Headey is one of the biggest names from the cast of the show. The veteran actress is back to the small screen with the sci-fi series Beacon 23.

Game of Thrones’ Lena Headey to star and produce AMC's 'Beacon 23’

Serving as one of the lead characters, Headey will star as Aster. A woman who mysteriously becomes a beacon keeper on a remote lighthouse. She is also set to executive produce through her production company, Peephole Productions.

Based on the book of the same name by Hugh Howey, Beacon 23 follows Halan and Aster as they find themselves trapped at the end of the known universe as beacon keepers. They are responsible for ensuring the safe passage of ships in the 23rd century. Unable to tell if the other is trustworthy, a tense battle of wills unfolds at the edge of space. Howey’s series has five entries, so there is plenty of content and inspiration to draw from for the new small-screen adaptation.
