George R.R. Martin jokes his minions are “threatening to kill” him if he veers off of The Winds of Winter
One of today’s most well-known authors is Game of Thrones‘ George R. R. Martin. Because he incorporates aspects of both reality and imagination, his works have a distinct character. That is why fans have been waiting for the next book in the series, The Winds of Winter, for over a decade. Martin has time and time again assured fans that he is indeed working on the novel. This time, his own minions are making sure he stays on track.
George R. R. Martin’s ‘minions’ are keeping him in check
Martin is infamous for his slow writing speed. However, his biggest and closest fans, the minions – comprising Lenore, Elias, Sid, Raya, Andrea, Amy and Sarah – are making sure he’s working on the novel every day. He revealed on the Game of Owns podcast that his minions are “cracking whips” to make sure he stays on task. He says, “She has been threatening to kill me if I take on another project.”
George R. R. Martin assures fans he’s still writing The Winds of Winter
There’s a reason why George R. R. Martin is never a showrunner on a Game of Thrones show – he is too busy writing Winds of Winter. He said,

“There’s part of me that would love to be actually writing and running all of these shows…but I can’t! You may not know this, but there’s this book that I’m writing…it’s a little late, but I gotta keep working on it and finishing it!”
