Game of thrones has taken the most interesting of twists this season and the best one by far has been the revelation about how Hodor got his name. The executive producers recently revealed that it was Martin’s idea (the entire Hold the door, Hodor part) and that revelation was phenomenally heart wrenching.
George R.R. Martin revealed the Hodor twist to both David and Dan and they were in utter shock. But as it turns out, Martin revealed not one, but three major twists to the executive producers. According to the showrunners, there are, “three holy-ish’ moments on the show.
The first one was the burning of Shireen baratheon by Stannis Baratheon where the former is latter’s daughter. This was showed in fifth season and created a worldwide hatred for Stannis who was otherwise an able ruler. The second of those three moments was shown in this Sunday’s episode where it was revealed how Hodor got his name while Meera was constantly shouting Hold the Door and Bran had warged both in past and present Hodor. And this way, the present day Hodor died while keep the whitewalkers away inside holding the door so that Bran and Meera could escape.
And the third moment has been saved for the end according to David Benioff. He spoke with EW about how though the show has surpassed the books, there are still major similarities between the coming books and shows and said that, “People are talking about whether the books are going to be spoiled – and it’s really not true. So much of what we’re doing diverges from the books at this point. And while there are certain key elements that will be the same, we’re not going to talk so much about that – and I don’t think George is either. People are going to be very surprised when they read the books after the show. They’re quite divergent in so many respects for the remainder of the show.”
Probably that last twist is related to Bran, or Jon, or Daenerys. Well, who knows!
