Tourism Ireland reveals a giant Game of Thrones tapestry

Game of Thrones is a worldwide phenomenon, but the places it films in, are the ones it gets the most love from. It is no secret that the production of Game of Thrones in Northern Ireland has led to the tourism industry of the region to flourish. Now, as a way of saying thanks, Tourism Ireland has unveiled a massive tapestry that tells stories from Game of Thrones. Read on!

Tourism Ireland has unveiled what it describes as a “77-metre long, Bayeux-style tapestry which tells the story so far from season 1 to season 6.” This arrives in concurrence with the release of Game of Thrones Season 7. The official description reads :

“The tapestry brings to life the trials and tribulations of the show’s characters in its most epic and famous scenes – complete with blood red weddings, golden Lannister hair, emerald green wildfire, cold blue White Walkers and jet black crows.”

The 77 metre tapestry is made from linen, supplied by one of the last linen mills in Northern Ireland, Thomas Ferguson’s in Banbridge. While the tapestry only has events leading up to Season 6 till now, it will be updated every week as the Season 7 episodes come out. It will be presented in the Ulster Museum, open for public from Saturday, 22 July. In the meantime, you can check out the digital version of the tapestry on the Tourism Ireland website. Game of Thrones fan site Winter is Coming managed to snag some pictures, so take a look at them, below :

George R. R. Martin shares a poem with fans on his 73rd birthday

George R. R. Martin is one of the most famous fantasy writers of present times. If not for him, we wouldn’t be having the amazing world of Game of Thrones, HBO’s fantasy epic based on his A Song of Ice and Fire novels. Though much of his fanbase has grown weary of him, for making them wait for the next book in the series ‘Winds of Winter’, he is still a coveted literary figure, and no one can deny his importance in the entertainment industry.

Martin turned 73 on Monday, September 20, 2021, and birthday wishes have been pouring in for the veteran writer. He shared a nice poem about getting old on his blog Not a Blog:

George R. R. Martin shares a poem with fans on his 73rd birthday

I grow old… I grow old…

I shall wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled.

Shall I part my hair behind? Do I dare to eat a peach?

I shall wear white flannel trousers, and walk upon the beach.

I have heard the mermaids singing, each to each.

I do not think that they will sing to me.

((with thanks to T.S. Eliot))”

It is true that Martin is getting old, and many fans are worried if he’ll ever get to finish his novels. However, it is also true that he has been promising fans he will deliver the much-awaited books, while he is still working on other projects. We can only hope he is true to his word. What do you think about it? Talk to us in the comments below!
