8 details you might have missed in Game of Thrones season 6 episode 5: The Door

Game of Thrones season 6 episode 5, The Door ended on a tragic note, with the deaths of the Three-Eyed Rave, Children of the Forest, Summer and Hodor. After the emotional and slightly optimistic episode 4, where we saw many reunions, The Door abruptly pulled us back and reminded us that this is Game of Thrones. In the episode we also saw the Kingsmoot and how Theon and Yara had to flee from the Iron Islands to avoid getting killed by Euron Greyjoy. Arya was reminded of the unpleasant memories of the past when she went on the mission that was given to her by Jaqen.

However, the entire episode wasn’t gloomy and we got to see some positive developments. Finally Sansa Stark has made it clear that from now onwards she is not going to be manipulated by anyone. She made it clear to Petyr Baelish that he wasn’t anymore in her good books and just saying sorry wasn’t going to resolve the blunder he had committed. We also finally got to know about the origin of the White Walkers and that was a big surprise. We got introduced to a new Red Priestess named Kinvara and she left Lord Varys stunned, which is a very rare thing

Overall, the episode was exciting and it kept up on the edge. Here are the details that you might have missed in Game of Thrones season 6 episode 4 : The Door.

1. Arya sees Ned’s getting killed again

In the first season young Arya was present during the execution of her father, Ned Stark and it was a traumatising sight for her. Naturally, when she saw the play about the events in Westeros and witnessed the beheading of Ned Stark, all the traumatic memories of the past came back to her and you can see it on her face. In season 1, she was a part of the crowd that witnessed Ned Stark’s execution and in this season, while actors played the roles of characters from Westeros, Arya played herself.

2. Icelandic band Of Monsters and Men made a cameo in the show

During the play that Arya watched, we saw members of the Icelandic folk-pop band Of Monsters and Men in the role of the band that played the music during the King’s Landing scenes. The official Game of Thrones Twitter account had even tweeted about them before the show aired.

This is not the first time that a band has made an appearance in the show. In the previous seasons, we have seen Gary Lightbody, who is the lead singer of Snow Patrol, Will Champion from Coldplay, Sigur Ros and Mastodon making an appearance on the show.

3. George R.R. Martin’s upcoming book Winds of Winter was mentioned during the play

During the play, there was a mention of George R.R. Martin’s next book, The Winds of Winter. The actress who played Cersei entered by saying the following lines, “I feel the winds of winter as they lick across the land

4. Who said anything about him

This isn’t the first time we have heard this line in Game of Thrones. We last heard the line in Game of Thrones season 5, when Lord Varys was talking about a person who was fit to rule Westeros and when Tyrion replied, “Good luck finding him,” Lord Varys simply replied, “Who said anything about him?,” while referring to Daenerys Targaryen.

This time it was Tyrion’s chance to use the same line while talking with Varys about the new Red Priestess.

5. The similarity between the Three-Eyed Raven and tree face

If you noticed carefully, the Weirwood tree in the scene in which we see the origin of the White Walkers has a face which closely resembles the Three-Eyed Raven. Now this is Game of Thrones and it is filled with tiny hints that indicate about major events in the show in the future. So does this similarity mean anything?

6. The Spiral pattern

During the vision where Bran went back in the past and witnessed the creation of the White Walkers, we were shown a top view of the tree and the stones around it. If you notice carefully, we have seen this spiral pattern before in the show.

We last saw a similar spiral pattern in Game of Thrones season 3, when the Night’s Watch was attacked by the White Walkers and this is what was left behind. This pattern assumes huge significance as the pattern is used both by the Children of the Forest and also by the White Walkers.

7. The actor who plays the first ever White Walker, also plays the Night’s King

We saw the Children of the Forest creating the first White Walker but he wasn’t any normal White Walker. The actor who we saw in the scene was Vladimir Furdik, who also plays the role of the Night’s King.

8. Winter killed Summer

In the climax scene, we saw that Summer sacrificed his life while trying to protect Bran, Meera and others. It was sad to watch another Direwolf die. The important thing to note is that Summer was killed by the Wights, who represent Winter. We saw that the Night’s King entered the cave and massacred almost everyone and now there are chances that even the Wall might fall and Westeros will be invaded by the White Walkers. The killing of Summer by the Wights indicated that Winter has arrived.
