Game of Thrones showrunners tease a Red Wedding-like situation in 3 Body Problem

Though Game of Thrones included some of the most horrific fatalities ever seen, the Red Wedding caused more shock and incredulity than any other television program death in history. That was one of those cases where George R. R. Martin was shown as a merciless serial killer of his own characters. We might see one of those situations once again, this time in Game of Thrones showrunners’ upcoming sci-fi drama.

The 3 Body Problem might have a ‘Red Wedding’-like situation

The Red Wedding in Game of Thrones caught everyone by surprise – no one had expected so many main characters to die in a single scene. David Benioff and D. B. Weiss aim to recreate that moment in 3 Body Problem. In a recent interview with THR, Benioff said,

“The second book is far better than the first, and the third book just completely blew my mind. So I feel if we survive to the second season, we’re going to be in a good place. Things wildly escalate and there’s one scene, if we get to it, we’re golden — like when we got to the Red Wedding on Thrones.”

The Red Wedding was extremely difficult for George R. R. Martin to write

Despite being one of the most popular and important chapters in Martin’s books, he hated writing that scene. Martin once said:

“I knew the Red Wedding was coming and I’d been planning it all along, but when I came to that chapter, which occurs two-thirds of the way through A Storm of Swords, I found I couldn’t write that chapter. I skipped over that chapter and wrote the hundreds of pages that followed. The entire book was done, except for the scene with the Red Wedding, and even all the aftermath of the Red Wedding.”
