The homoerotic tryst between Daemon and Criston
Matt Smith and Fabien Frankel have shared a deep friendship ever since their time on House of the Dragon. They have been spotted spending time off-screen with each other, and often complimented each other on interviews, like the time Frankel called Smith “incredibly sexy” as Daemon. Smith, the actor behind Daemon Targaryen, has proposed an intriguing theory about the complex relationship between Daemon and Criston Cole. He suggests their intense rivalry and shared romantic pursuits may have led to a secret, intimate appreciation. Matt Smith’s hypothesis implies that Daemon and Criston may share a deeper bond beneath their surface-level animosity. This speculative take has piqued the interest of fans, who will have to wait until the 2026 release of season 3 to see if this tantalizing possibility is explored. Matt Smith said at the NYCC 2024 Q&A (via Winter is Coming),
“I’ve been convinced Daemon and Criston have had a homoerotic tryst,” Smith told the crowd. “We’re both in our armor, we’ve got swords, he likes one queen, and I like the other queen…They hate each other but they love each other.”
