Geeta Patel, the talented director who worked on some memorable episodes of House of the Dragon in both Season 1 and 2, won’t be returning for Season 3. Instead, Patel will be focusing on her new gig with the upcoming DC Universe series, Lanterns.

Fans of Patel’s work on House of the Dragon will likely feel the loss, but her new project with Lanterns has a lot of potential. While we’ll miss her work on Westeros, it’s exciting to see what she’ll bring to the DCU.

X account @housethedragons has reported that Geeta Patel, who directed some standout episodes of House of the Dragon, won’t be returning for Season 3. The reason? She’s taken on a new challenge—directing for the DC Universe’s Lanterns series. Unfortunately, the schedules for Lanterns and House of the Dragon overlap, which means Patel can’t be a part of the upcoming season.

Patel’s work on House of the Dragon was definitely a mixed bag. She directed the fan-favorite episode “The Lord of the Tides” in Season 1, which was widely praised for its character-driven storytelling. However, her work on Season 2 wasn’t as universally loved, particularly during the season finale, which left some fans disappointed.

While some fans may miss Patel’s unique touch, her absence in Season 3 opens the door for new talent. Still, it’s clear that she left a mark on the series. Hopefully, her upcoming project with Lanterns will give us another side of her directing style that we can look forward to!

Patel heads to the DC Universe with Lanterns

While House of the Dragon fans may be sad to see Geeta Patel go, her new project is definitely something to be excited about. Patel has joined the DC Universe team to direct Lanterns, a series focused on the Green Lanterns.

Patel’s shift from House of the Dragon to Lanterns is an exciting move, and it highlights her versatility as a director, as she has previously also worked on the Star Wars series Ahsoka. The show is expected to bring high-stakes action and emotional depth, much like Patel’s work on House of the Dragon.

The other directors set to work on Lanterns are:

  • Alik Sakharov (The Sopranos, Game of Thrones)
  • James Hawes (Slow Horses)
  • Stephen Williams(Watchmen, Lost)

For fans of superhero dramas, this is a new and intriguing project to watch out for. As Lanterns begins to take shape, Patel’s role in bringing the DC Universe to life will undoubtedly be a major highlight.
