The relationships in the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon is a jumbling mess, and sometimes it is hard to keep track of. Incest is all too common in the Targaryen family, and one of the incestuous “shipped” and theorized couples belongs to the Green faction. Aemond and Helaena have shared a liking for each other. But did it ever turn into love?

Aemond and Helaena might be a thing in House of the Dragon

Fans have often shipped the two Targaryen siblings for a long time. In a recent interview with Decider, Phia Saban and Ewan Mitchell also hinted towards the same.  Saban said: “I mean, sometimes Ewan [and I] will be doing a scene and we’ll be like, ‘Do it for Helaemond.’ And he’s like, ‘You know what the people want.’”

Mitchell too agreed to the fact, and said: “I think it’s nice to leave, you know, little seeds out there for the audience to kind of create their own theories on things. I mean, Targaryen-ism is known for that, and so it’s not entirely out of the question. But I mean, I don’t know, it’s an interesting theory for sure.”

Phia Saban on why Helaena might choose Aemond over Aegon

There have been plenty of theories out there, as to why Helaena chose Aemond over Aegon. Saban went on to give her 2 cents on the topic, “Maybe it was a coronation, or maybe it was before then, I think they let Helaena off where I just ended up standing next to him quite a lot.”

“It just felt like Helaena felt safer with Aemond than she did with Aegon and that they’ve got something, some affinity there.”
