There is more controversy surrounding Game of Thrones than just the contentious final season. The show’s creators have frequently been called out for their handling of violence, gore, and nudity, and anytime these concerns are brought up, they are publicly humiliated. Hence when the showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss wanted to create another show, they wanted something far removed from the world of Westeros.

Game of Thrones showrunners wanted a new set of challenges

After spending a decade crafting one of the biggest fantasy series in history, Benioff and Weiss wanted to move on. Weiss told BBC, “It was the greatest experience of our lives, but we really wanted a new set of challenges on every level. 3 Body Problem was about as far away as you can get from what we’d just done on Thrones”.

Weiss explained his reasoning behind this, “You show up at work every day and are kind of amazed you actually get to do this for a living – and that’s the feeling that you’re chasing. Whenever you choose a job you’re spending years of your life on, you don’t want to make the wrong choice – it’s pretty easy to get bored.”

Barack Obama turned down a small role in 3 Body Problem

The 3 Body Problem has quite a fan following already. Former US President Barack Obama is one of them. However, when showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss offered him a role in the upcoming Netflix Sci-fi, he politely declined. Benioff told USA Today, “He did sign a very funny note, when we tried to get him for a cameo. It was to the effect of, ‘In case there ever is a real alien invasion, I think I should probably save myself for that crisis’.”
