Game of Thrones spinoffs in peril as HBO suspends overall deal with George R.R. Martin
The development of the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon is well underway. We’ve previously seen photos of new sets being built at Leavesden Studios in the United Kingdom, where filming is presently taking place. Despite the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, shooting for the second season of House of the Dragon will proceed without a hitch. However, the work on a number of other Game of Thrones spinoffs has come to a screeching halt.
George R.R. Martin’s deal with HBO has been suspended
Game of Thrones author George R. R. Martin is a big supporter of the ongoing writers and actors strikes. In his recent post on his blog Not A Blog, Martin informed his readers, “As for me personally, my overall deal with HBO was suspended on June 1.”
However, it is not known if it was HBO who suspended the deal or if he himself gave it up to stand in solidarity with his writer friends. However, this development bodes nothing but bad news for Game of Thrones spinoffs, as they cannot move forward without Martin’s presence or consent.
George R.R. Martin explains what the actors’ and writers’ strikes are about
Martin went on to explain on his blog, “These strikes are not really about name writers or producers or showrunners, most of whom are fine; we’re striking for the entry level writers, the story editors, the students hoping to break in, the actor who has four lines, the guy working his first staff job who dreams of creating his own show one day, as I did back in the 80s”
