9 details you might have missed in House of The Dragon Episode 7
The seventh episode of Game of Thrones prequel House of The Dragon was quite eventful, to say the least. Beginning at a grim note with Laena Velaryon’s funeral after her suicide in episode 6, the gathering at Driftmark was particularly sensitive, with various groups trying their best to not invoke any kind of conflict. But as they say, wherever Targaryens are, trouble is likely to follow. And things rarely end well for them.
A lot happened during the course of the episode, from Rhaenyra and Daemon finally embracing their true feelings to Aemond stealing Vhagar and losing an eye in the aftermath. However, there are some details that are quite easy to miss. Let’s have a closer look at them:

Changes in the intro
The intro video of House of The Dragon reflects what has happened in the series so far, but it is a blink and a miss, since it moves so fast. The most noticeable change that can be seen is the difference in Laena Velaryon’s turquoise symbol, which is now drowned under a pool of blood after her demise in the previous episode. However, no such symbolism was shown for Harwin and Lyonel Strong, who also died in that episode. It will be interesting to see how they portray Laenor’s symbol on the board in the next episode, especially because of the twist at the end.

Foreshadowing of a future relationship
During the funeral at Driftmark, Daemon and Laena’s daughters, Rhaena and Baela, are standing in a corner, missing their mother and crying in disbelief. Rhaenyra points out to her son Jacaerys (Jace) that his cousins need him, so he goes and stands next to them, not knowing what to say. Baela reaches out to hold his hand, while still in tears. Later when Aemond steals Vhagar, Baela rushes to Jace instead of any of the elders to get help. It is a foreshadowing of their future relationship, that will come to pass during the civil war.
Mention of the Merling King
During his eulogy at Laena Velaryon’s funeral ceremony, Corlys’ brother Vaemond name drops the Merling King. Merling King is a deity of the sea from the land of Essos that takes the shape of a merman. According to the accounts mentioned in Fire & Blood, when the Velaryons were escaping the Doom of Old Valyria, they made a pact with the Merling King of Essos to obtain the Driftwood Throne. In Game of Thrones, after the battle of Blackwater Bay, Davos Seaworth finds himself stranded on a cluster of small islands called the Spears of Merling.
Callback to Daenerys and her dragons
Daenerys was the mother of dragons in Game of Thrones, and she and her dragons were featured in some of the most exquisite shots during the show. One of the most remarkable ones being Daenerys sailing through the sea with ships flailing a Targaryen flag, and her three dragons flying overhead. The three dragons of the Greens flying over King Viserys’ fleet is a subtle reminder to his Thrones descendant.

Callback to the skirmish in Game of Thrones Season 1
The massive fight that follows Aemond’s stealing of Vhagar and his subsequent loss of an eye is just a glimpse of the conflict we will see in the upcoming seasons of House of The Dragon. The childish skirmish was also reminiscent of the fight that took place in the second episode of the first season of Game of Thrones, when Joffrey Baratheon was attacked by Nymeria, Arya Stark’s dire-wolf.

Rhaenyra is seeing her uncle Daemon after a decade, and all her former feelings are rushing back to her. The way she looks at him while passing through the crowd is quite similar to the way she did when Daemon first returned to King’s Landing after winning the War at the Stepstones, foreshadowing the marriage at the end of episode 7.
Nod to a popular meme
Game of Thrones and House of The Dragon memes are quite popular on social media. One of the scenes in the latest episode gave a subtle nod to one of the most popular jokes of all time. When Laenor remorsefully tells Rhaenyra, “I should’ve been there” after the skirmish, Rhaenyra replies, “Those should be our House words.”
Laenor’s actions foreshadowing his fate
Towards the end of the episode, Daemon implies that Laenor needs to be killed in order for him to marry Rhaenyra. However, the audience are left shocked when the twist is revealed later on, that it was all a ruse, carefully orchestrated by Rhaenyra, Daemon, Qarl, and Laenor himself. It can actually be seen by the way he fights Qarl in Driftmark throne room, only going for blocking moves as if play fighting, until the squire leaves to get help.

Dragonglass
The Targaryen Valyrian-styled wedding is something we have never seen before, and even though there are no deaths here, it is certainly a bloodied one. Notice the tool Rhaenyra and Daemon use to cut their lip and hand for the ceremony. Yes, it is the famed dragon glass, the weapon that will one day prove instrumental against the army of the White Walkers in Game of Thrones. Dragon glass held special reverence in the Valyrian household, and the only place where it could be mined in Westeros was Dragonstone, the Targaryen stronghold from before the Doom of Valyria.
