House of the Dragon Episode 5 introduces and kills two new characters
The latest episode of House of the Dragon (We light the way) highlights a royal wedding, a new dragon, two murders, and some queer canoodling as well.
With that being said, when Daemon returns to Vale, we get to see Lady Rhea Royce. The character is played by Rachel Redford and is the wife of Daemon Targaryen. Known as the Lady of Runestone, Lady Rhea Royce is the head of House Royce.
It is quite clear that Daemon and Rhea never had a happy marriage. This becomes evident when Daemon called Rhea his “bronze bitch.” As per Fire and Blood by George R.R. Martin, Daemon and Rhea got married in 97 AC. It was a political marriage and that’s perhaps why the pair never fall for each other.
Later in the episode, Rhaenys and Corlys reveal that Rhea is dead after falling from her horse. While the viewers never get to see the actual moment on screen, it is almost certain that Daemon killed her.
On the other hand, Laenor Valeryon had his own preferences regarding who he wanted to spend his time with. That is when Joffrey Lonmouth showed up as an important character.
With that being said, Ser Joffrey Lonmouth is a knight and lover of Ser Laenor Velaryon. Perhaps that is why he cares a lot about Laenor. When he confronted Ser Criston Cole about their relationship status as lovers of both Rhaenyra and Laenor, Criston killed him.
While Ser Joffrey’s role was very small in House of the Dragon, this character helped audiences acknowledge who Ser Laenor Velaryon actually is.
Did Viserys die?
King Viserys I is not dead yet. Though he is not doing well at all as the cuts from the Iron Throne is all over his back now. The king has also lost his fingers and apparently suffering from other illnesses as well.
In this regard, there’s something very shocking coming up in Episode 6 of House of the Dragon and there’s a possibility that Viserys will still be alive when the timeline jumps ten years into the future.
