Kit Harington’s shelved Jon Snow spinoff might get another shot in the future
There’s still a tiny sliver of hope for Jon Snow’s return as HBO chief Casey Bloys hinted at Jon Snow spinoff getting another chance in the future.
HBO has been keen on exploring the Martinverse more deeply, even prior to the end of Game of Thrones. While some spinoffs have come to fruition, numerous others have been canceled at various stages of development. Fans have eagerly anticipated new shows featuring their favorite characters. However, the highly awaited Jon Snow spinoff featuring Kit Harington was shelved earlier this year. HBO chief Casey Bloys recently talked about the state of spinoffs including Snow.
Quick details:

HBO may consider Jon Snow spinoff in the future
A lot of fans were let down when the news about the Jon Snow spinoff’s cancellation came out. However, all is not lost as there’s still a chance that it might make a comeback. During a press preview event for HBO’s upcoming 2025 slate, Casey Bloys hinted at the possibility (via Deadline), “Maybe we’ll try again.”
As for other Game of Thrones spin-offs, he said, “So far [House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms] are the only ones that we felt could go the distance. I mean, practically speaking, you don’t want to overdo any anything. There’s no blinking green lights on any other ones. At the moment, we take our time with them, with the development, and only do them when we can serve it.”
He also confirmed a Game of Thrones movie is in its early phase at Warner Bros.
Why was the Jon Snow spinoff shelved?
Back in April this year, Kit Harington revealed in an interview that the Jon Snow spinoff had been shelved. Later on in August, Harington revealed the reason behind the series’ cancellation, “We spent a couple of years back and forth developing it. And it just didn’t… nothing got us excited enough. In the end, I kind of backed out and said, ‘I think if we push this any further and keep developing it we could end up with something that’s not good. And that’s the last thing we all want.’”
I wonder whether there was a strange comfort in keeping a line to Jon Snow alive, even just as a theory, a concept – like texting an ex when the future starts to feel scary. It must have been a tough decision, emotionally, to know whether to go back or move on.”
