Interview
John Bradley has no problem being identified as Samwell Tarly for the rest of his career: “Nobody’s complaining”
Game of Thrones was a life-changing experience for both the cast of the show and its viewers. Several of the celebrities moved on to new projects once the show’s production was over. John Bradley, who played the charming Samwell Tarly in the hit television series, was a well-liked personality among the audience.
Among the HBO epic’s most endearing aspects was Sam’s relationship with Kit Harington‘s Jon Snow.

Sam was Bradley’s first role, and it turned out to be the most important role he had ever played. In an interview with Cherwell.org, he talked about how he relates to Sam, “Yeah, I think that’s the thing about having your first role be one of the biggest things you’ll ever do, if not the biggest thing. Because not only do people think you can’t play anything else, but they also think that is actually what you’re like because they’ve got nothing to reference the real you.
So now I find myself playing characters that are more similar to me, but people think that’s acting, and they think I am Samwell, and that when I’m playing close to myself, that’s the big transformative part.”

Though most actors are scared of being typecast as a specific type, Bradley isn’t. He further emphasized, “But I think it’s always good in a way because I think everyone, whether you’re an actor or not, everyone’s got one part in them that they can play better than any other because it speaks a lot about your life.
It’s just about trusting yourself to play other parts. And it’s also about other people in the industry, trusting you to play different parts and hoping that people will believe it. So, it’s a long process. But, you know, if that’s the only thing that you get judged by for the rest of your career, nobody’s complaining.”
