Game of Thrones’ showrunners to produce new historical drama for Netflix
Game of Thrones is a global sensation that was created by David Benioff and Dan Weiss respectively. Presently, the two are making the rounds again in order to promote their next show, 3 Body Problem. After the setback they suffered with the Game of Thrones finale, Benioff and Weiss are riding high waves, and have clinched another Netflix title that looks into the history of a US President.
David Benioff and D. B. Weiss to produce Netflix’s Death by Lightning
Game of Thrones creators David Benioff and Dan Weiss have teamed up once again with Bernie Caulfield, who was also a producer on their magnum opus. The upcoming Netflix historical drama, Death by Lightning, will be created by showrunner Mike Makowsky and stars Succession’s Matthew Macfadyen in the lead. He will be joined by Man of Steel’s General Zod, Michael Shannon.
What is Death by Lightning about?
Death by Lightning is based on the novel Destiny of the Republic by Candice Millard. The story of U.S. President James Garfield (Shannon) and his assassination by Charles Guiteau (Macfadyen) is portrayed in a dramatic fashion in the series.
The official synopsis reads:
“Death by Lightning is a drama series that brings to life the epic and stranger-than-fiction true story of James Garfield, reluctant 20th president of the United States, and his greatest admirer Charles Guiteau — the man who would come to kill him.”
What is the release date for Death by Lightning?
The Netflix drama Death by Lightning is yet to begin production. More details about its release date will be revealed as filming commences.
