Game of Thrones actress says she would be open to returning as Lyanna Stark in Robert’s Rebellion prequel
Aisling Franciosi expresses interest in reprising her role as Lyanna Stark for a Robert’s Rebellion prequel.
One of the most intriguing events in Game of Thrones lore is Robert’s Rebellion, where Robert Baratheon overthrew King Aerys II Targaryen, also known as the Mad King, from the Iron Throne. The rebellion centered around the alleged abduction of Robert’s betrothed, Lyanna Stark. As Lyanna was also the sister of Ned Stark, Warden of the North, House Baratheon and Stark combined their might to fight House Targaryen and its allies.
Fans have been clamoring for an adaptation of this series for a long time. Now, actress Aisling Franciosi, who played Lyanna Stark in Game of Thrones, has said she would be open to returning as Lyanna Stark for the Game of Thrones prequel if it ever happens.

Game of Thrones’ Lyanna Stark actor Aisling Franciosi talks potential return
Aisling Franciosi, who famously portrayed Lyanna Stark in Game of Thrones, recently spoke out about the possibility of returning to the role in a future spinoff series centered around Robert’s Rebellion. With the immense success of House of the Dragon and multiple spinoffs in the works, including A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and a show about Aegon’s Conquest, the world of Westeros is set to expand even further.
In an interview with ScreenRant at the Sundance Film Festival, where she was promoting her new comedy movie Twinless, Franciosi shared her openness to reprising her role as Jon Snow’s mother in a Robert’s Rebellion prequel. She mentioned that she’d be more than willing to return for a small part, similar to her previous appearances, expressing her enthusiasm to be a part of the Game of Thrones franchise again. Franciosi said:
“Absolutely. Yeah, I would if it came up. It was fun to be a part of something [so big], even if I was a tiny part. It was fun to be a part of something so massive; really good fun.”
With so many exciting projects on the horizon, could Lyanna Stark make her way back to the screen? Fans are hopeful, and Franciosi’s willingness to return certainly leaves the door wide open for future possibilities.

Will Franciosi return as Lyanna Stark in Robert’s Rebellion?
There’s no guarantee Franciosi will return as Lyanna in a future spinoff as the prequel series has not actually been confirmed yet. However, Franciosi’s limited appearances in Game of Thrones leave plenty of room for her development. This could include a major role in a story about Robert’s Rebellion or appearing in smaller sequences during other shows.
Lyanna Stark was a key figure during Robert’s Rebellion, as her secret marriage to Rhaegar Targaryen (Wilf Scolding) was a catalyst for a revolt between his family and Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy). Westeros historically believed she had been taken by the Targaryen prince by force, something Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) later learned wasn’t true. He also discovered that Jon was not, in fact, Ned Stark’s bastard son, but rather the child of the betrothed pair.
The truth about Jon Snow’s parents became a key factor in the show’s final seasons. If Lyanna were to return, a Robert’s Rebellion show would offer her a larger role than ever before, since she’d be a focal figure in the conflict, even if she was mostly on the sidelines during it. Since Game of Thrones spinoffs can take place seemingly at any point in the timeline, a show about the major revolt could be on the table in the future, even if it hasn’t been considered yet.
