Aegon II thinks he’s a fraud and wants to prove himself, says Tom Glynn-Carney

David Hancock, who is working as executive producer and writer on the show, revealed how Aegon II chose Criston Cole as Hand of the King due to his fear of being upstaged. Ever since he became King, he constantly felt slighted and ridiculed by his grandfather who still saw him as a child. With Cole as the Hand of the King, Aegon II will have greater control over his council and will not be outshone in decisions.

Tom Glynn-Carney further expressed what’s going on inside his character’s mind that makes him so impulsive yet vulnerable. He shared,

“Aegon is not thinking tactically. He’s being impulsive. It’s the same old trends in him. His self-awareness is growing, and not in a good way for him because he’s becoming more aware of how much of a fraud he is. And it’s eating him from the inside out.”

While he claims he wants to join Cole in the war, he soon changes his mind. Aegon II realizes the true meaning of war and the fear of the same settles deep within him. How does he expect his armies to follow his command when he is so scared for the battleground himself? The next scene then showcases his tone change with his pals who happen to be knights. Aegon II realizes that he needs to be more commanding and poised to be respected as the King of the Seven Kingdoms.
