Game of Thrones was an epic fantasy, there’s no doubt about it. There’s yet to be another show that has come close to the quality and popularity that George R. R. Martin’s creation achieved, but the future is looking bright and we have several contenders. One of them is Amazon’s The Wheel of Time, which is itself an adaptation of Robert Jordan’s 14-book series. The showrunner, Rafe Judkins, is aware of the comparison being made with Game of Thrones, but he’s looking hopeful.

In a recent interview with Dragonmount.com, he denied following in the footsteps of the highly popular HBO epic, “What I felt when I was reading and looking at a lot of them was that they were chasing something…and my pitch was that Wheel of Time is chasing nothing. Wheel of Time is its own entity, and that it is what other things have been chasing for a long time.”

“We’ll always lean into the pieces of it that feel fresher today, we have to, like that’s just part of the adaptation that we’re doing and that won’t change. But that Wheel of Time itself is not chasing Game of Thrones, it is not chasing Lord of the Rings, it is something that exists on its own and other things will chase it someday and are now even.”

The second season of The Wheel of Time is on the way. Are you excited to watch Season 2? Tell us in the comments below!
