House of the Dragon Season 2 episode 5 has some epic moments and is full of hidden details that you might’ve missed. However, the latest episode doesn’t give away anything concerning whether Aemond intended to burn Aegon in the first major battle in the Dance of the Dragon, the Battle of Rook’s Rest. Luckily, though, Tom Gylnn-Carney, the actor who plays Aegon, has shared his opinion about Aegon’s treatment of Aemond that leads to the big threefold dragon battle.

Did Aemond intend to burn Aegon?

This is one of those burning questions that the makers kept open for interpretation, at least until now. And just like fans, the makers and the cast and crew members are also putting forward their theories. Recently joining the bandwagon is Ewan Mitchell. Although Mitchell doesn’t rule out the possibility of Daemon intending to burn Aegon, the actor is of the opinion that Aemond would never have intended to burn Aegon.

I think that maybe Aemond would never have intended to burn Aegon, but it just so happened that Aegon was there tangled with Rhaenys and Meleys when he was on top of Sunfyre,” Mitchell told Entertainment Weekly. “It raises the question of whether or not he would’ve done that or if Aegon was just collateral damage. I think that’s compelling. Maybe it was when Aegon brought in the Pink Dread [as children] when Aemond was like, ‘I’m going to burn him one day for this.’ Who knows?

Does Aegon dislike Aemond and why does he bully him?

Deadline asked why Aegon dislikes Aemond so much, and Tom Glynn-Carney, the actor playing Aegon in the show, says he doesn’t. Responding to why Aegon treats him poorly in the brothel, Tom said,

That’s brothers. Aegon was pissed off that for weeks that Aemond has been in the small council and he’d been conniving and plotting with Criston behind his back. That kind of clique-ness and keeping Aegon out of the situation for Aemond’s own self-gain, knowing that Aegon would take over the position of King should he get the opportunity, Aegon needed to bring him down a peg. I don’t think it come from a place of disliking him,” said Tom Glynn-Carney while answering Deadline‘s question of why Aemond doesn’t dislike his brother despite what happened in that brothel scene.

You don’t have to believe them

Whatever Ewan Mitchell and Tom Glynn-Carney said are their personal opinions on what might have happened. While both the actors seem to be on the same page on what Aemond’s intentions were, not all makers and cast members always agree. We all know how the makers of the show are divided over whether dragon eggs in episode 3 will find Daenerys in Game of Thrones. So, feel free to have a different opinion from the makers.
