Interview
Matt Smith improvised in High Valyrian while filming the Aemond-Daemon face-off from Season 1
Ewan Mitchell recalled filming a scene with Matt Smith in a recent interview.
Like Aemond and Daemon in House of the Dragon, actor Ewan Mitchell has repeatedly stated how he looks up to Matt Smith as an actor. The two actors have shared the screen for a very limited time. However, that is enough for us to gauge the respect and fear Aemond has for his uncle Daemon.
In House of the Dragon season 2, Aemond swells with pride when Daemon sends Blood and Cheese to slay him. In the end, things turn ugly when they kill baby Jaehaerys instead of Aemond.

Ewan Mitchell recalls filming a scene with Matt Smith
In House of the Dragon season 1, Daemon intervenes in a situation where the cousins are seen fighting and squabbling. While Aemond refuses to budge on any other elder’s advice, he steps down after just one sentence from Daemon. That scene sets the power dynamics straight between the members of House Targaryen.
In filming that scene, actor Ewan Mitchell recalls how Matt Smith improvised his lines in High Valyrian in the moment, leaving him shocked and confused. Talking about his experience, Mitchell shared with Hero Magazine,
“I remember that moment in season one episode eight around the banquet table and Aemond [Ewan’s character in House of the Dragon] and Daemon [Matt Smith’s character in House of the Dragon] have a face-off, and in one of the takes Matt spoke in a murmur but it was High Valyrian. I did notice that quality in the limited times I worked with him. There is something spicy about mixing it up, keeping you on your toes and in turn, you pick up a few moves in the process.”
Seems like young actors are learning a lot from the more experienced ones on the sets of House of the Dragon. Emma D’Arcy, who was in conversation with Mitchell for the magazine, further claimed how Smith loses himself in a character. They added,
“The guy’s got great taste as well, sometimes he has lovely ideas about how a thing might play best and at what size. I get the sense he has a really vivid picture in his mind’s eye and that’s so helpful because it refers to the technical part of our job. It’s a privilege to be ‘lost in the character’ but there is a specific technical part of how something communicates and I think he is really good at that.”

This figure of Aemond Targaryen also comes with a chance of receiving a Chase version of the figure, which shows a glow-in-the-dark Aemond with Sapphire Eye.
