The Last of Us inducted into the World Video Game Hall of Fame
The HBO adaptation of the Naughty Dog video game The Last of Us successfully completed its first season, and it was a roaring success. It broke a number of records when the season finale aired, and has inspired similar franchises to revive their old projects. Though initially met with mixed response during its inception, the video game too is being recognized after the success of the show as one of the masterpieces of digital media.
The Last of Us finally gets a place in the World Video Game Hall of Fame
According to the Museum of Play, 4 games have been inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2023, which include The Last of Us, 1971’s Computer Space, 1996’s Barbie Fashion Designer, and 2006’s Wii Sports. The games will be enshrined and on display in a new home for the World Video Game Hall of Fame slated to open June 30—part of a 90,000-square-foot expansion of The Strong.
What is the World Video Game Hall of Fame?
The World Video Game Hall of Fame was established in 2015 to recognize “individual electronic games of all types that have enjoyed popularity over a sustained period and have exerted influence on the video game industry or on popular culture” and are doing great work in chronicling the history of our medium, besides.
The Last of Us showrunners already have plans for Season 3
The Last of Us creator Neil Druckmann said in a recent interview, “Because we’re making the show, we know Left Behind, we know Last of Us Part II, so there are things, like we could have Marlene talk about Riley early on, because we have a better understanding of who Riley is, because Left Behind has already come out. We know where a lot of Season 2 and 3 will go, so we could start laying things in earlier.”
