The artwork in The Rise of The Dragon gives a subtle nod to the cast of House of The Dragon
The first season of Game of Thrones prequel House of The Dragon has reached its conclusion. It had its ups and downs but overall it was a hell of a roller coaster ride. It had everything that the fans had expected, amazing casting, a thrilling performance by the cast, breathtaking scenery, and an intriguing storyline. George R. R. Martin announced the release of The Rise of the Dragon coincidentally along with the first season’s conclusion, which showcases new and amazing artwork from Fire & Blood.
Sven Sauer, artist for the Fire & Blood art book, The Rise of the Dragon, recently talked to Los Siete Reinos about how he tried to resonate the show’s casting in his illustrations despite not fully knowing the actors behind the various characters. He said, “To be honest I wasn’t keeping up with everything about House of The Dragon but as a big fan of the TV series I did know some cast members when I started working on the book. So although books and series are not the same, I wanted them to support each other, because the book would be on the shelves as soon as the first season of House of Dragons ended, and I wanted to give a nod to the series with my own designs and art.”
“So yeah, to some extent I wanted the art to kind of resemble the general look of the series. But sometimes there were great coincidences with the overall look, like my piece “A Quarrel of Princes.” I had zero idea how the boys were going to appear on screen, but to my surprise Aemond, Lucerys and Jacaerys are very similar to the cast members I’ve seen on TV.”
