It has been nearly a decade since George R. R. Martin’s last book in the series A Song of Ice and Fire was released. Fans have been eagerly waiting for the next book Winds of Winter, and even though the author keeps assuring them that yes, he is still working on the novel, they have been growing restless. And we can’t blame them, a decade is such a long time, and many are worried if he will be finishing it anytime soon. In the absence of the original source material, there are several rumoured theories running around on online forums, and one of them looks quite interesting.

One of the theories that has been in the wind for some time is about a different storyline for Stannis Baratheon, and a subsequently changed death scene that we witnessed in Game of Thrones TV series. According to the fan theory, Stannis Baratheon will survive the Northern conflict that doomed him in Game of Thrones. If true, Stannis will ultimately be slain not by Brienne of Tarth, but none other than Daenerys Targaryen.

In the argument put forth by an unknown Reddit user, Stannis will survive his battles with the Boltons, help the Northerners prepare for the inevitable arrival of the White Walkers, and begin marching South, only to meet his end in a battle with Daenerys and her dragons. There are several instances in the ASOIAF series that point to this conjecture, but whether it’s true or not only the future installments will tell. What do you think about this theory? Talk to us in the comments below!
