In the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon, Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen is one of several grey figures. There are various redeeming characteristics in Emma D’Arcy‘s portrayal of Rhaenyra, one of which being her love for and care for her children. However, the finale of the first season leaves Rhaenyra and also the fans heartbroken, and we can expect her character to change in many ways.

There’s nothing more devastating for a parent than to lose a child. But it’s even more excruciating when you can’t even see them for the last time to say goodbye. In a new clip from the set of House of the Dragon in Wales, leaked by the fan account @theblacks_, Matt Smith and Emma D’Arcy dressed as Daemon and Rhaenyra are seen walking on the beach searching for Lucerys’ remains.

As seen in the previous seasons of Game of Thrones, the story picks up right where it was left off. We can expect the same from the prequel House of the Dragon as showrunner Ryan Condal had teased a more traditional Game of Thrones-styled storytelling in Season 2. If this is how House of the Dragon Season 2 begins, it will be one of the most tragic openings ever filmed.
