Game of Thrones fans have loved Daenerys’ dragons, Drogon, Viserion, and Rhaegal, for eight years. They were born and grew up against the odds, like their mother, Daenerys. But the new spinoff, House of the Dragon, could have finally introduced us to the actual mother of the dragons, Dreamfyre.

We see Dreamfyre shoot fire at a young Aemond Targaryen in episode six. She is a slender dragon who will later bond with Helaena Targaryen. Initially, the dragon bonded when the nine-year-old Princess Rhaena Targaryen, sister to King Jaehaerys I. In 54 AC, Elissa Farman, rumored to be Rhaena’s lover, stole a clutch of dragon eggs to secure gold so she could build herself a ship. The three eggs are believed to be Dreamfyre’s, which petrified over the years. Elissa sold these eggs to the Sealord of Braavos, and some two odd centuries later, Magister Illyrio Mopatis of Pentos gifted the dragon eggs to Daenerys.

The theft was a massive scandal in Westeros at the time, and in the long run, it changed the course of history and turned the tides in Daenerys’ favor. Had Elissa not stolen these eggs, Daenerys would not have become Mother of Dragons. No one believed the eggs would ever hatch, but it turns out they needed heat and perhaps the blood of Old Valyria.

The magnitude of George R.R. Martin’s fantasy universe is so colossal that anything in the show could be an easter egg. Tell us about your favorite easter egg on our Discord server.
