George R. R. Martin revealed to be the face of the Harrenhal weirwood tree in House of the Dragon Season 2

Based on the intriguing Fire & Blood tale by George R.R. Martin, the House of the Dragon series has been successfully capturing people’s hearts with its ongoing second season. Martin’s intricate web of lies, deceit, and evil leaves no stone unturned. His way of storytelling is incredibly unique and inspiring as it makes fans want more.

House of the Dragon season 2 is sadly coming to an end soon. With only the finale episode remaining, the show will wrap up this season’s storyline and move on to their plans for the next chapter.

As a tribute to the author who envisioned and imagined it all so that millions of fans worldwide can experience the grandeur of dragons and battles, showrunner Ryan Condal etched George R. R. Martin’s face in the iconic weirwood tree that we see in the show.

In the Behind The Episode footage, Condal does not share who it is directly, but he claims that there is a recognizable face that many viewers might have missed. However, the production designer Jim Clay soon reveals,

“Ryan wanted to do a bit of a tribute and the idea was that it gradually started to disappear back into the bark of the tree. The brief was to make it feel enough like him but you’re never really sure. The idea is that you don’t look at it straight away and say that’s George R.R. Martin and you do a second take oh is it.”

While Condal and Martin pose in front of the weirwood tree, the author expresses his gratitude and shares how cool the tree looks. Now, Martin’s association will be fully consolidated not only in the books but also in the HBO TV show.

This weirwood tree is at Godswood which is considered a crucial place for Harrenhal. Condal further shares how the castle was built by chopping off those sacred trees. This might have perhaps led to the weird experiences and possible curse that people feel around them.
