George R. R. Martin loved the Battle at Rook’s Rest, says it was the best Dragon battle on screen
“Our guys knocked this one out of the castle,” wrote GRRM.
It comes as no surprise that George R. R. Martin is an ace storyteller. Add to that the ingenuity of the showrunners working on House of the Dragon, and you have a masterpiece. Martin has been highly appreciative of the HBO prequel show in terms of the storylines it captures and the essence it brings on screen.
Recently, the latest episode of House of the Dragon Season 2 featured a massive dragon battle. Martin went on to shower the episode with praise as he loved the way the entire sequence was portrayed.

George R.R. Martin loved the Battle of Rook’s Rest episode
It is a matter of great pride when the maker of the fictional universe whose work inspired a project appreciates the efforts of the adaptation. Martin has repeatedly praised the cast and crew of House of the Dragon for their deviation and hard work. In his latest blog, the author expresses his admiration over how the Battle of Rook’s Rest was portrayed and the gravitas of the entire episode.
“I trust you all caught “The Red Dragon and the Gold,” the fourth episode of season 2 of HOUSE OF THE DRAGON. A lot of you have been wanting for action, I know; this episode delivered it in spades with the Battle of Rook’s Rest when dragon met dragon in the skies. Has there ever been a dragon battle to match it? I seem to recall that REIGN OF FIRE had a few scenes where a dozen dragons were wheeling through the skies. So, okay, maybe that was a bigger scene, with more dragons on screen… but a better battle? I don’t think so. Our guys knocked this one out of the castle.”
From the action sequences to the emotional deaths, House of the Dragon season 2 episode 4 did it all, and that too with utmost grace. The episode surely deserves to take the top spot among action sequences in the HBO prequel. As Ryan Condal previously confirmed, we are yet to see another dragon battle on screen. We wonder how the showrunners will ever top the Vhagar vs Meleys showdown. Nonetheless, fans know that greater things are in store for the other half of House of the Dragon season 2.
