Fans call out George R.R. Martin after Andrzej Sapkowski announces new Witcher novel

George R. R. Martin is perhaps the most accomplished novelist of modern times. With a number of successful on-screen adaptations under his belt, the veteran author’s books are high in demand more than ever. Fans have been waiting for “The Winds of Winter”, the next book in Martin’s Game of Thrones series, for over a decade. And they want to send a wake-up call to Martin after The Witcher author Andrzej Sapkowski recently made a surprising announcement.

Andrzej Sapkowski to release a new Witcher novel within a year

In a recent live stream with Ukrainian fans by Fantastic Talk (s), Sapkowski made the announcement which was translated by Redanian Intelligence:

“I never say these things because with me you never know. Maybe I’ll do something, maybe I won’t. And so far, when I said that I would write something, and then I didn’t write it, people complained as if I had deceived them and as if I had lied.

That’s why I don’t like to talk about what I’m doing until I finish doing it. Because until I finish it, I don’t think it exists. But since I always make exceptions for Ukrainians, I will do it this time too. Yes, I’m working on a new book about Witcher and quite diligently. It may take a year, but no longer.”

Fans remind George R.R. Martin about Winds of Winter

Almost immediately, fans all over social media took the opportunity to ridicule the Game of Thrones author. Some of the examples from Twitter are below:

Why has George R. R. Martin not completed Winds of Winter?

Martin recently admitted in an interview with filmmaker Kevin Smith, “There are joyful days, when it really comes alive, and the characters come alive, and the scene and the words are pouring out of you.” It feels great. But those days are few and far between. There are also difficult days.”
