Game of Thrones’ Carice van Houten among 1500 activists arrested at the Extinction Rebellion protest in The Hague
Climate change is a serious environmental issue all over the globe, and whether we take it into account or not, we have seen some drastic weather conditions in the past couple of years. There have been several reports about governments turning a blind eye to the ongoing issue, and it has irked a number of citizens who gathered in The Hague, Netherlands, yesterday to protest. Game of Thrones actress Carice van Houten was also among them.
What is the Extinction Rebellion protest about?
Extinction Rebellion is a global environmental movement with its headquarters in the UK. Its declared mission is to use nonviolent civil disobedience to pressure governments into taking action to prevent climate system tipping points, biodiversity loss, and the threat of societal and ecological collapse.
What happened at the Extinction Rebellion protest in The Hague?
More than 1,500 people were arrested during the protest, including Carice van Houten, who played Melisandre the Red Priestess on Game of Thrones. The actress was a member of a group of environmentalists who blocked a road to hold a protest march. She posted a clip of the peaceful protest in The Hague and was one of those who got hit with a shower of water canon by the police.
