Game Of Thrones actor Iain Glen to lead in the war epic ‘The Last Front’

Iain Glen, best known for his role as Jorah Mormont in Game of Thrones will be playing a lead role in ‘The Last Front’, a war epic film. The film is said to be based on a farmer who gets drawn into conflict during the First World War, so let’s take a detailed look at the film!

What is ‘The Last Front’ about?

The film will follow a widower farmer and war hero, Leonard and his family to resolve and protect their village during the German invasion of Belgium in the First World War. It is set during the first days of the conflict as the German war machine advances. The supporting characters include Leonard’s son, Adrien and Leonard’s girlfriend Louise.

Back in 2019, the director Kerknawi said in an interview with Variety that he deliberately wants to move away from the usual tropes of World War I movies. “No trenches, no left-side Allies, right-side Germans,” he said. “I want to show the people how the people themselves handled the First World War, how they had to fight and struggle.”

Who is cast in ‘The Last Front’?

Besides Iain Glen playing the lead role of Leonard, the cast also includes Sasha Luss who will play the character of Louise, and James Downie who will be playing Leonard’s son Adrien.

The rest of the cast includes Anna Madeley, Joe Anderson, David Calder, Koen De Bouw, Julian Kostov, Leander Vyvey, Joren Seldeslachts, Anna Ballantine, Sam Rintoul, Emma Moortgat, Emma Dupont, Steve Armand, and Philippe Brenninkmeyer.

When is ‘The Last Front’ releasing?

While we’re still not sure about the exact release date, the film is in the final stages and should be released this year! This film also marks the debut of director Julien Kerknawi. In an interview, he said that “This film pays homage to the extraordinary strength of ordinary people when thrust into unimaginable situations.” 

Back in 2022, Iain Glen posted a picture telling the world that he is currently in Belgium shooting the film, and also gave some details about the film. The caption of the post said, “Shooting a film “The Last Front” in Belgium. Playing a farmer who gets drawn into conflict during the First World War. A reluctant hero.”
