Fans think that Helaena is pregnant with Maelor in House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 1
Will Maelor be featured in House of the Dragon Season 2?
House of the Dragon Season 2 premiered on June 16 and delighted fans with an incredible beginning. After the cliffhanger ending of House of the Dragon Season 1, fans couldn’t wait to see what the next season would bring. Now that it’s here, every week feels longer and dreadful to spend only in waiting for the next episode to drop.
Nonetheless, the first episode of the show itself has given fans a lot to configure and analyze. One such aspect seems to be Halaena’s apparent pregnancy.

Fans speculate Halaena’s pregnancy in House of the Dragon Season 2
A user on X has pointed out that Halaena is perhaps pregnant with Maelor in House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 1. In the scene where she expresses her fear of rats to her husband-brother Aegon II, we can see a third cradle or playpen ready in the corner. As of now, Halaena and Aegon II have two children – twins Jaehaerys Targaryen and Jaehaera Targaryen.

that doesn't look like a cradle for a newborn or an infant like we saw in aemma's room and rhae's room in dragonstone before baelon and visenya were born, I think it's like a playpen or even a tub for the twins (I don't think we'll get a pregnant helaena) pic.twitter.com/EXsLaVEjnJ

On the other hand, according to Fire and Blood, Maelor is already born when King Viserys dies and the Dance of the Dragons begins. The show House of the Dragon seems to be taking some liberty with the timelines in this aspect. In House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 1, Aegon II is already very attached to his son as he prepares him to be king next. So, fans can only imagine how he will react to the news of his first son’s death.
Other users also joined the discussion and some disagreed with the posited theory. They claim that it’s not exactly a cradle and just a playpen for the toddler twins. Moreover, fans are confused as to why the House of the Dragon Season 2 showrunners would bring Maelor into the picture after Blood and Cheese already happened. In the books, the duo killers come into the castle to slay one of the male heirs of Aegon II. They ask Halaena to choose which son she wants to lose and she picks Maelor. Nonetheless, Blood and Cheese kill Jaehaerys.
This has sparked a wider debate about characters and their respective ages on the show. Subsequently, many fans have questioned the time jumps and narrative continuity.
