Phia Saban confirms Helaena Targaryen is a Dreamer, can see glimpses of the future
One of the few characters from House of the Dragon whose presence has prevented the audience from being divided into groups is Helaena Targaryen. Helaena is the one character that everyone adores, like a little sister, even among book readers. Actress Phia Saban, who portrays the adult version of the character, recently confirmed the fan theory that she is a “dreamer”.
Helaena Targaryen is a dragon dreamer
Dreamers exist in the world of Westeros; it was established by Viserys Targaryen quite early in the series. In a recent clip released by Max, Saban revealed, “What [showrunner Ryan Condal] has done, is he’s kind of adapted Helaena to be a dreamer. So Helaena can see the future, can feel the future and the past. On a level inside her she knows things. She can’t always literally turn that into advice, but she knows that things are about to happen.”

What is a Dragon Dreamer?
Old Valyrians are accustomed to having what are known as “Dragon Dreams,” in which they view the future. A Song of Ice and Fire, the dream of Aegon the Conqueror, tells of his descendent rescuing mankind from a long darkness. The Doom of Valyria appeared in the dreams of Daenys Targaryen, commonly known as Daenys the Dreamer. The Targaryens were able to withstand the catastrophe because she forewarned her family. Although Helaena was never mentioned as possessing any prophecy abilities in the novel, the show may be changing that.
Was Daenerys a Dragon Dreamer?
The ability to have dragon dreams runs thick in the Targaryen family. Daenerys, too, apparently had this power thinks to her father, Aerys II, who was turned into “The Mad King” due to his visions. In Game of Thrones, there are five instances when she has dreams but fails to interpret them correctly. They are:
- Prior to the birth of her three dragons, she had dragon nightmares. She had a dream of a black dragon before her wedding to Drogo
- She dreams of a black dragon when she is newlywed and on the Dothraki Sea, feeling hopeless and unable to continue.
- Daenerys appears to no longer be dreaming of the black dragon after the birth of her three dragons, but she is troubled by other dreams and visions.
- She had what could be a prophetic dream on board the Balerion the night before the sack of Astapor that might have something to do with the Others.
- As queen of Meereen, she imprisons Viserion and Rhaegal in the pit of the Great Pyramid’s darkness and loses control of Drogon in the Dothraki Sea. She is experiencing nightmares, and her dreams have altered and are no longer comforting her.
