Olivia Cooke reveals if Alicent knows Aemond burned Aegon
Alicent is right about this
Season 2 of House of the Dragon witnessed a significant shift in power. Alicent Hightower, long-standing ruler of the Small Council, was ousted by her son, Aemond. After Aemond secured victory for the Greens, and burning Aegon in the process, he has been solidifying his presence as the regent. And Alicent suspects that Aemond might’ve betrayed his brother.
Alicent has a feeling Aemond injured Aegon
Aemond hasn’t confessed to burning Aegon at Rook’s Rest yet, and not many people know about it. However, Alicent has an inkling that all is not well between the two brothers. In an interview with GQ, Olivia Cooke explained,
“Absolutely. I think mother’s intuition, and also just the way she asked Criston Cole, and Criston Cole — who usually, I think, has been quite transparent with Alicent — sort of shirked off the answer, and the subtext within that. I think she absolutely can sense that Aemond was the cause of Aegon’s [attack]. It’s all just happened so perfectly, as well. Aemond always wanted the throne, and always believed that he was the perfect ruler, and it has fallen into his hands too well.”

Alicent is terrified of Aemond
Aemond’s sudden rise to power has left Alicent looking for other options. Cooke added, “I think Alicent is terrified of Aemond because on the surface he has everything that this male-dominated council will want in a leader. He’s got strength, he’s got smarts, he is a really adept dragonrider. He rides a massive dragon.
So just that propagandic vision alone is enough to rule a kingdom. But then she sees the fragile boy inside of him, who is quick to anger and quick to seek revenge, because of what’s happened to him.”
