Olivia Cooke, best known for playing Queen Alicent Hightower in House of the Dragon, has joined the cast of Switzerland. The psychological thriller, directed by Anton Corbijn, explores the life of renowned author Patricia Highsmith. Helen Mirren stars as Highsmith, while Alden Ehrenreich also joins the cast. As production begins in Rome, this casting adds to the anticipation surrounding the film.

Highsmith is best known for creating Tom Ripley, a charming but manipulative con artist and killer. First introduced in The Talented Mr. Ripley (1955), the character appears in five novels that explore deception, identity, and morality. Ripley has been adapted multiple times for film and television, with actors like Matt Damon and John Malkovich portraying him on screen.

The film follows Highsmith, who enjoys a quiet life with her cats in the Swiss Alps. However, her peace is disrupted when Edward, a literary agent, arrives. He insists she write another Ripley novel. What starts as a professional meeting soon turns into a dangerous psychological game with unexpected consequences.

Alden Ehrenreich (Oppenheimer, Solo: A Star Wars Story) will portray Edward, while Cooke’s role remains undisclosed. The film plays with reality and fiction, blurring the lines as Highsmith and Edward collaborate on a story. As the plot unfolds, the tension between them builds, making Switzerland a gripping psychological thriller filled with intrigue.

Corbijn is making his feature film return after nearly a decade. His last movie, Life, explored the friendship between photographer Dennis Stock and actor James Dean. He is known for bringing the lives of famous figures to the screen, including his acclaimed biopic on Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis, Control.

Filming has already begun in Rome. By February, production will move to the South Tyrol region, followed by locations in London and Switzerland. The film boasts an impressive creative team, including Oscar-nominated cinematographer Robbie Ryan, Oscar-winning costume designer Gabriella Pescucci, and production designer Dimitri Capuani.

Originally, Corbijn planned to begin filming Switzerland in fall 2023. However, delays pushed production back. Now, with filming underway, the team is expected to accelerate work to ensure the film is completed as soon as possible. The movie could be ready for release by the end of the year or early next year.
