The last episode of House of the Dragon Season 2 bore witness to one of the biggest sky battles in Westerosi history. The ending to the Battle of Rook’s Rest was left on a massive cliffhanger after watching King Aegon II crash-land with his dragon Sunfyre after being burnt by his own brother, Aemond. The extent of his injuries was revealed in the latest episode, and it wasn’t pretty.

King Aegon II won’t be ruling any more in House of the Dragon

After the climactic battle of episode 4, Aegon II is in no shape to sit on the Iron Throne. His skin has fused with Aegon the Conqueror’s armor which he wore so proudly to battle, and he is suffering from multiple fractures. From here on in the story, we will see less of him, as his brother becomes the regent in his stead.

Sunfyre is absent from House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 5 after his blazing defeat in the previous battle. Even Criston Cole doesn’t think the royal steed will survive looking at how he took the brunt of the damage during the Battle of Rook’s Rest. The golden dragon is still likely at Harrenhal, unable to fly.

The makeup and costume team did a fantastic job in etching out the gory details of Aegon’s injuries. The fans were horrified to see it come to life, and took to social media saying:
