Kit Harington recalls dealing with deteriorating mental health while filming Game of Thrones
For the actors and crew, filming a series as massive as Game of Thrones can be quite demanding. It also had a negative impact on Kit Harington‘s mental health, who starred in the program as Jon Snow.
He even had to go to rehab for a few months. In a recent wellness podcast, he discussed how he handled his addiction issues.
Kit Harington opens up about his mental health struggles
Harington has often talked about his mental health issues and the rehab process in the past. His status got worse during the peak of Game of Thrones, and he had to claw his way back. In his recent appearance on the podcast Hidden 20%, he admitted,
“I realized that my life was hinging on this. Luckily, it was the right place at the right time. I managed to forge a new life from there.”
He recalled that he “entered rehab drunk, sobered up in there, and went, ‘F— this, not you guys in a circle. No, thank you.’”
Harington also talked about dealing with his ADHD, and going to another rehab. He said, “I left that pretty quick and said, ‘I’ll try to deal with this by myself,’ which didn’t work after about four years.”
Kit Harington is still attending support groups
Harington once revealed that he still attends support groups years after Game of Thrones, “I’m a big believer in talk therapy and I went through a lot of that when I went through the thing I went through. And I still to this day I have (for want of a better word) support groups that I go to where I talk and that helps me. And I do a lot of exercise which stops my brain from going crazy.”
Harington is sober right now, and hopefully, we’ll see him in the Jon Snow spinoff.
