The idea of Game of Thrones spinoff series isn’t novel; HBO has expressed interest in exploring the Martinverse more deeply, even before the end of the original series. While a few spinoffs have come to fruition, several others have been canceled at various stages. Fans have eagerly awaited the return of their favorite characters in subsequent shows. However, the anticipated Jon Snow spinoff featuring Kit Harington is no longer in development.

How Kit Harington felt on being approached for SNOW

After Game of Thrones ended, HBO execs met up with Harington for a Jon Snow spinoff called SNOW. His initial response was – no. In a recent interview with GQ, Harington recalled, “I don’t really want to say, because it starts a whole thing.”

“What I can tell you is it was HBO that came to me and said, ‘Would you consider this?’ My first reaction was no. And then I thought there could be an interesting and important story about the soldier after the war. I felt that there might be something left to say and a story left to tell in a pretty limited way.”

Why Kit Harington let go of SNOW

However, despite several tries, the absence of a proper source material got the better of him. Harington added, “We spent a couple of years back and forth developing it. And it just didn’t… nothing got us excited enough. In the end, I kind of backed out and said, ‘I think if we push this any further and keep developing it we could end up with something that’s not good. And that’s the last thing we all want.’”

I wonder whether there was a strange comfort in keeping a line to Jon Snow alive, even just as a theory, a concept – like texting an ex when the future starts to feel scary. It must have been a tough decision, emotionally, to know whether to go back or move on.”
