Hollywood heaves a sigh of relief as WGA strike ends after 146 days following a new deal with AMPTP
The wait is finally over. The Writers Guild of America strike, which had paused everything in Hollywood, from highly anticipated shows to movies, comes to an end, with a deal that is going to affect all the writers in the industry irrespective of the network they work for. Not only this is good news for the budding writers starting new, but also for the fans who have been awaiting the arrival of their favorite shows and films.
WGA and AMPTP come to an agreement
A tentative deal on a new three-year contract between the WGA and major studios and streamers will be putting an end to the 146-day strike that has had a significant negative impact on the entertainment sector. After five days of discussions, the Writers Guild of America and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers struck a conclusion on Sunday. The majority of Day 4 on Saturday was spent negotiating the text of complex and ground-breaking revisions to the WGA’s Minimum Basic Agreement by guild and AMPTP attorneys.

Voting to take place on Tuesday
During the guild’s acceptance and ratification of the contract, the strike will continue to be in effect as a whole. But as of Sunday night, picketing has stopped. Whether to formally rescind the strike order against AMPTP signatories will be decided by a vote of guild leaders on Tuesday. Until the final text is written over the next few days, no specifics of the contract agreement will be disclosed.

Tuesday’s vote on the final agreement is anticipated by the WGA leadership. The decision of whether to submit the agreement for a vote by the WGA West board and WGA East council will first be made by the negotiating committee. The agreement will be submitted to the 11,000 WGA members for approval assuming that both of those votes are in favour of it.
