George R.R. Martin’s Night Of The Cooters wins Best Short at Midwest Weirdfest

Game of Thrones writer George R. R. Martin is one of the most accomplished novelists today, with several best-selling books under his belt. The veteran author is already associated with a bunch of new shows, including Game of Thrones prequel House of The Dragon. Martin’s novels, films, and TV shows have gone on to win several awards, including Night of The Cooters which won the ‘Best Science Fiction Short’ at the LA Shorts International Film Festival. The film will also be featured this year at the MidWest WeirdFest, where it won the Best Short Film award.

How did George R. R. Martin react to Night of The Cooters winning the Best Short?

Martin wrote on his blog Not A Blog:

“VERY pleased to announce that NIGHT OF THE COOTERS kicked ass and took names at this year’s Midwest Weirdfest in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, winning the festival laurel as the Best Short.

It’s the third victory for our little movie since we hit the festival circuit. COOTERS was also named Best Sci-Fi at the LA Shorts Film Festival back in November, and again at the New York Shorts earlier this year.”

What is The Night of The Cooters about?

Based on the classic short story by Howard Waldrop, NIGHT OF THE COOTERS tells the tale of the day the Martians invaded Pachuco, Texas. Vincent d’Onofrio directed the short film, and stars as Sheriff Lindley. Have a look at the official trailer:
