House of The Dragon overtakes Game of Thrones as Sky Atlantic’s biggest U.S. drama launch in U.K.
Game of Thrones prequel House of The Dragon is on everyone’s lips right now, after the tremendously well-received premiere earlier this week. The hype around the show is very real, the pilot itself scoring a massive 9 rating on IMDb. Avid readers of George R. R. Martin’s works are looking forward to seeing some of their favorite characters from the novel Fire and Blood, as the show is based on an infamous incident from its storyline. It is not only reflected in the number of viewers from the U.S. but also in the U.K.
The numbers are out for Sky Atlantic’s new big release, and according to the data collected by The Hollywood Reporter, the stats show the viewership was through the roof during the premiere. 1.39 million tuned in to watch the pilot episode for HBO’s big-budget Game of Thrones prequel, out of which 394,000 watched the show at the 9 p.m. prime time linear broadcast, and almost 1 million either stayed up to watch at 2 a.m. local time — when it first landed on the platform — or downloaded and watched later in the day.
The final figures are yet to settle down, the numbers are still soaring as the first 10 days since the premiere will be taken into account. These astounding numbers turned House of The Dragon into the biggest fantasy drama launch on Sky Atlantic channel, running past the launch of Game of Thrones, and becoming the biggest U.S. drama launch ever on the network.
