Graham McTavish reveals filming for Game of Thrones prequel House of The Dragon is nearly finished

Graham McTavish is one of the most recognizable faces in the television industry, appearing in a number of famous fantasy shows and leaving an everlasting impression with his brilliant performances. From Outlander to Lucifer to The Witcher, he is one of the most respected and beloved actors, and his most recent role is sure to become the next fan-favorite character in the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel. McTavish will be playing Ser Harrold Westerling in House of The Dragon, but before he was offered the role he had a choice to play another character, who would have died in the fourth episode.

Talking to The Sunday Post, he revealed, “About five years ago, [House of the Dragon showrunner Ryan Condal and I] were having lunch and he told me he was working on a Game Of Thrones prequel and he would love me to be in it. When it came closer, he said there were two possible characters I could play, but one of them died in episode four, so of course, I went for the other one!”

Knowing Graham McTavish’s stature and fame, it is likely that both the roles he was offered were central to House of The Dragon’s storyline. One of them is Ser Harrold Westerling, the noblest knight in all of Westeros, which he accepted. The other one remains a mystery.

McTavish also talked about how he was never allowed to sit while wearing his armour, “The king’s guards that my character is part of are almost like Templar monks/warrior types. Who forsake all worldly things and are not allowed to have relationships or money. They are completely devoted to the king. I had to wear a lot of armour and never once was I allowed to sit down in a scene.”
