George R. R. Martin says fans have become “vicious” due to The Winds of Winter delay
It has been nearly a decade since George R. R. Martin’s last book in the series A Song of Ice and Fire was released. Fans have been eagerly waiting for the next book Winds of Winter, and even though the author keeps assuring them that yes, he is still working on the novel, they have been growing restless. And we can’t blame them, a decade is such a long time, and many are worried if he will be finishing it anytime soon. Even Martin accepts the fact that the fanbase has grown weary of him.
Martin appeared on Idris and Sabrina Elba’s Coupledom Podcast and said, “I get that Winds of Winter, the sixth book is late. I could get a hundred good comments but there are still a few fans who are going to remind me on my blog; when I say ‘Happy Thanksgiving’ and they say ‘never mind Happy Thanksgiving, where’s the book’?”
“I love the fans, although I do think Twitter and the internet and social media has brought out a viciousness I never saw in the old days. Love and hate are very close, particularly with something like comic books or any established franchises.”
What do you think of Martin’s statement? Do you think it’s true? Talk to us in the comments below!
