Conleth Hill (Varys) says he liked Game of Thrones better when it was smaller
Game of Thrones Season 8 wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea. The season finale divided the fan base into two. One was satisfied with the ending, the other demanded a season remake. Some blamed the absence of George R. R. Martin’s next installment of books. While some blamed the showrunners’ piqued interest to launch a Star Wars feature film trilogy with Disney’s Lucasfilm. There were some others who hated the show from season 6 onwards. Was actor Conleth Hill (Varys) one of them? He might have been, according to a recent interview.
Hill recently talked to the Irish Examiner about his Game of Thrones experience, and expressed how he like the show better when it was smaller. However, he also said he doesn’t hate the latter seasons. Hill said, “One of the things I said was I felt — which is one of the things about being in a multi-character. piece of work — is that if they chose to go with other characters there is nothing I can do about it. I wasn’t bad-mouthing them.”
He continued, “I was always satisfied with what I got. I preferred [ Game of Thrones] when it was smaller. That doesn’t mean I hated it when it was bigger. Everyone had invested so much in it. I had no problem with people not being happy about it. I had a problem when they went for the two show runners [David Benioff and DB Weiss]. It was very personal. You’re allowed your opinion. Don’t have a go at them, that’s all.”
