The tale of Game of Thrones season 8 controversy still lives in the minds of the die-hard fans. It has been nearly three years since HBO’s money-making mint wrapped up filming, but people can’t stop talking about it. After all, the highly popular and record-breaking show divided its fandom with a controversial and a rather rushed-up final season. Not just the fans, but the cast of the series is split up upon the issue. There was even a petition to rewrite season 8 of Game of Thrones, and it looks like it is still going on strong.

The signature campaign launched by dedicated fans has amassed a total of 1,851,866 signatures, and people are still signing up for the cause, the latest one being just two hours ago at the time of publication of this article. The petition was started by Dylan D. and it states:

“David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (i.e. the books) to fall back on. This series deserves a final season that makes sense. Subvert my expectations and make it happen, HBO!”

We know a lot of fans share the same sentiments, including Game of Thrones star Charles Dance, who at one point declared he would have signed the petition if he had known about it earlier. Perhaps it’s still not too late for Charles to sign up!

    Great article!!!!

Dylan D. is quite passionate about his feelings towards Game of Thrones. He has every right to feel any way he chooses. However, I am confused.

He stated that “David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have proven themselves to be woefully incompetent writers when they have no source material (i.e. the books) to fall back on. This series deserves a final season that makes sense.”

    REALLY?

Well how is it, that we didn’t see this petition during season 6? I mean, season 6 has no source material. Heck, even Benioff & Weiss won an Emmy for Best Writing in A Drama Series for Battle of the Bs episode. Season 6 even won 12 emmys including for Best Drama series.

    1) Was the Door episode that bad?
    2) Was the Battle of the Bs episode that bad?
    3) Was Winds of Winter episode that bad?

Well how is it, that we didn’t see this petition during season 7? I mean, season 7 has no source material. Heck, Season 7 won 9 emmys including for Best Drama Series.

    1) Was the Spoils of War episode that bad?
    2) Was Beyond the Wall episode that bad?
    3) Was Dragon of the Wolf episode that bad?

I think I know why this petition started. This petition was started on May 9, 2019 on Change.org by Dylan D. It’s all about timing.

It sure looks like Dylan is a strong supporter of a certain character of the show. And, this petition was created right after “The Last of the Starks” episode aired on 5/5/19.

    Spoiler Alert.

One of daenerys dragons get killed. And, Missendei gets decapitated in front of Daenerys. The episode ended with Daenerys looking like she is on the cusp of going “Mad King” on Kings landing.

Everybody who watched that episode, kind of knew what would happen in the very next episode.

Judging from the timing of that petition, it’s not hard to figure out why Dylan started this petition. It’s not hard to figure out why close to 2 million people signed that petition.

But, MAKE NO MISTAKE. The creation of the petition. The 1.8 million plus signatures of that petition, has nothing to do with Benioff & Weiss “POOR WRITING”. It has to do with how, Dylan and the1.8 million plus people who signed that petition, were attached to Daenerys.

It’s like a Parent being told by neighbors, that their favorite child has anger issues and will murder anyone(innocent or otherwise), that gets in their way.

Of course the parent will scoff at that. In fact, the parent would probably stop speaking to those neighbors.

Let’s take a look at the numbers.

I’ll be generous, and round that 1.8 million number of petition signatures, to 2 million. That’s a lot of people, who wants Game of Thrones season 8 redone.

    But, it’s about being relative.

2 million people out of 3 million people, is a significant number.
2 million people out of 4 million people, is a significant number.

But, it is a fact that an average of 44.2 million people watched each episode of season 8. 44.2 million people. This was reported from reputable news outlets. Such as, Deadline, Hollywood reporter, USA Today, TVLine, Polygon.

And, that’s 44.2 million people who watched season 8, LEGALLY!!!!!

We’re not even factoring the illegal downloads or the group gatherings, around the WORLD, that were watching season 8.

So now when we put 2 million people who signed Dylan’s petition against 44.2 million people who watched season 8, that 2 million people sure looks like a “CIVIL STREET CORNER GATHERING” as opposed to a “RIOT”.

My math may be kind of rusty. But, that looks like roughly less than 5% of the 44.2 million people who watched season 8, that wants it redone.

    LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So that means 2 million people out of 44.2 million people, wants to redo game of thrones season 8. While the other 42.2 million people does not.

Mind you. I am being generous with the 2 million amount. When it’s really 1.8 million plus signatures.

This tells me that the majority of people who watched season 8, LOVED IT. And, we are not going to sit here and say that the other 42 million people didn’t know about the petition. Please. That was all over the news when it hit. If memory serves me right, I believe my regular tv show I was watching was interrupted with a “Breaking News” about the 1.8 million signature petition.

I may be exaggerating about the breaking news bit. But, everyone knew about the petition.

So it begs the quesion, “Why only 1.8 million signatures?”. “What happened to the other 42 million people who watched season 8?” “How come they didn’t sign it?”

I am just going to take a guess and say, “Because they Loved Season 8”

Besides, it would be SILLY for HBO or any of the execs at WarnerMedia or the new company that’s coming in, to reboot it.

Nothing good ever comes from rebooting classics. It just doesn’t work.

    1) The Omen(2005) reboot, didn’t work.
    2) The Car(2019) reboot, didn’t work.
    3) Friday the 13th reboot, didn’t work.

Only one or maybe two shows ever worked after being rebooted.

    1) Battle Star Galactica.

Battle Star Galactica is an exception. Because, the original series only lasted for 1 season. It was reported that the budgeting costs were too high for the network to continue.

And, because it was only one season, I guess the execs felt that it warranted a reboot and the only dissenters would be the few millions of people who saw and loved the original. Which would be a drop in the bucket compared to the newer generations of people who never knew it existed. And the execs were right.

But, with beloved franchises that has tens of millions of followers all around the world? That is asking for a riot.

Everything about Game of Thrones was put together perfectly. It’s impossible to see anyone replacing Maisie Williams as Arya. Emilia Clarke as Daenerys. Jason Momoa as Drogo.

Can another writer and director replace the music at certain points of the episodes that gave the scenes that extra juice to make it’s point felt? And speaking of the music. It was Benioff & Weiss, who were extremely instrumental, in directing Ramin Djawadi. Ramin Djawadi was quoted in saying that.

In other words, the memorable songs that we all loved in Game of Thrones, was in large part due to Benioff & Weiss. Ramin Djawadi just made it happen.

    LOL!!!!!!!!!!

Can another writer and director replace the special moment that Jon and arya had in season 1 episode 2 when they hugged each other the very first time?

I am sorry. When I hear people making off-the-cuff remarks, about redoing season 8 or all of Game of Thrones, it sounds to me like people went into the final season with UNREASONABLE EXPECTATIONS.

I get it. I get it.

But, this just proves how GREAT the show is and how it was run by Benioff & Weiss. This show did what only a handful of shows ever did. It made you care about the characters. So much to the point, that you declared characters as your kids.

    LOL!!!!

I kid you not. If you goto some of the youtube channels(RTTV, the Normies, etc) you will see how some of them would say things like, “Arya is my daughter” And mean it.

    LOL!!!!!!

Dylan D is just another person who cared deeply about characters in the show. He’s just lashing out. I understand. But, I don’t agree with what he did. I think it’s silly.

But, it does prove your point, that people are still talking about Game of Thrones.

Which reminds me. I do hope that the House of the Dragon is good. I can’t wait to see it.

I think the Snyder cut of Justice League set a precedent. If the majority of fans believe a movie or show can be done better by someone else they should be allowed a chance, even if it just a chance to write a potential script for something. Does that mean it will result in a better product? Absolutely not. But people should be given the chance. Studios need to show that they’re paying attention to the fans of there products.
